This Mayoral Election is about Leadership
Leader of the City and the Council : without fear or favour
I am standing as an independent, and seeking the endorsement of the whole City with your number one vote for One Wellington. And that means really listening to the people. I want you to feel that you have been fairly heard. That is an important part of democratic governance.
The leadership of our City should be inclusive, open, independent and fair. It has been everything but.
That means: respect for each Councillor and for the honour and privilege that it is to govern this city.
Inclusive
That means: capitalising on the talents and skills of each and all of the councillors whom you elect to govern your City.
Open debate and discussion
That means: encouraging and allowing open debate instead of the Prendergast-Shaw administration of bullying, stifling, or kicking out of councillors who express different but important views. Focusing on the issues instead of petty point scoring and personal attacks.
Independent
That means: without fear or favour.
Fair
That means: an end to the divide and rule toxic Council of the last six years. Fair unbiased chairing of meetings.
No more bullying. No more violence. No more abuse.
Personal-Political values
I will aspire to be inclusive, independent, open and fair - -without fear or favour.
My personal political values are best summed up in these quotes from Abraham Lincoln's (President of America 1809-1865) speeches. One of his better known speeches was probably, “A house divided against itself cannot stand”
He said:.
"I have never professed an indifference to the honours of official station.Yet I have never failed - do not now fail - to remember that in the cause there is a higher aim than mere office."
" I have no wealthy or popular relations or friends to recommend me. My case is thrown exclusively upon the independent voters of the country (City), and if elected they will have conferred a favour upon me for which I shall be unremitting in my labours to compensate."
"If I am nominated and elected, I shall not go into the Presidency (Mayoralty) as the tool of this man or that man, or the property of any factor or clique."
